In an IP network some level of IP packet broadcast is necessary for communication between different network nodes. However, excessive IP broadcasting can bring a network to a halt.
On any network you will typically see broadcast packets with the network or subnet broadcast address. In some cases where systems get their network information from BOOTP or DHCP servers you may also see limited broadcast addresses. In all cases an eccess of broadcast packets usually indicates some type of problem. This may mean that there is a system infected with a virus or a NIC has gone bad. ReportBuilder allows you to run reports that report on IP broadcast as well as others that include all broadcast packets from protocols other than IP. Reports for both of these broadcast types have built in templates, but custom reports can be built to include the source data tables and other options.
The picture above shows which systems generated most of the broadcast traffic.
